The cup plant (Silphium perfoliatum) offers an ecologically advantageous alternative to silage maize for bioenergy production. This is the conclusion of a multi-year comparative study conducted by researchers at the University of Bayreuth. Because of cup plant's deep root system, it also proves to be a reliable energy crop under climate change conditions such as increasing drought.

Bavarian Minister for Digital Affairs becomes patron of the Digital Leadership Academy

Starting with the upcoming cohort in autumn 2025, the Digital Leadership Academy (DLA) will be under the patronage of Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs, Dr. Fabian Mehring. The DLA is an interdisciplinary continuing education program run by the University of Bayreuth. It prepares talented and ambitious students for future leadership roles in the digital economy.

Limited Prosecution in a Borderless Data Space?

On 9 October 2025, the second Bayreuth IT Criminal Law Day will bring together experts from across Germany to explore aspects of international criminal prosecution in the digital age. Following the great success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s conference will focus on the pressing issues surrounding cross-border evidence gathering and its practical implications for law enforcement — including gaps in current legislation.
